History of the WAPG
The WAPG was established in 1974, at Cadley Garage, as the Wiltshire Branch of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club, by four like minded individuals who's passion in farming machinery led to the preservation of them and a club that would showcase them to newer generations and keep the spark of using vintage machinery alive to this day.
The club now boasts an impressive and active social media presence and several major events, the Wiltshire Steam and Vintage Rally, Christmas Road run, Easter Road Run and Halloween Road Run
All of these three events are open to the public reminding them of the importance of agricultural and the advances in engineering over the years.
The Wiltshire Steam and Vintage Rally held in early June comprises a wide range of exhibits, tractors, cars, motorcycles, stationary engines and commercial vehicles of all ages. Steam is represented by full size and miniature examples and a craft and model tent and catering for all tastes are provided.
In addition specialist working exhibits are operating, steam powered threshing machines, steam powered saw benches, silage making with classic tractors and recreated manufacturer display stands add to the variety.
All Road Runs are open to members and non-members takes route around the local area of around 20 miles with a lunchtime stop-off. The start is published on the web site and the public are encouraged to see the start of the parade of vehicles.
In the past, we have also held vintage ploughing matches. The vintage ploughing matches were open to both members and non-members promoting and demonstrating the local agriculture and farming skills.
The group has no paid executors or members and gives donations to various charities. To date the group has donated £60,500 over the last 13 years, our primary charities include the Yellow Wellies and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Trust.
